Jun Masuda, chief strategy and marketing officer, told reporters that the mobile carrier service will be launched in a few months, starting at an affordable 500 yen ($4.40) a month and offering reliable connectivity using the telecommunications infrastructure of major Japanese carrier NTT DoCoMo.
Line, founded five years ago, already has a billion global registered users, 215 million of them active each month on average. That makes it bigger on mobile than Facebook or Twitter in Japan. Even the company has more users than Facebook and Twitter, the company is targeting the mutual users of LINE.
Due to the internal analytics of Techrux team, the smartphone users of Japan is around 545 Million. The users with featured device is around 830 Million. Now Line already provides a wide variety of services, such as free calls, messages, mobile payments, games, streaming music, and group chat; all of which will be included in Line Mobile’s monthly cost. Only calls and data used outside of the Line family will be chargeable. With this MVNO plan launch more users shall be joining LINE.
Traditionally, the mobile service was the area of MNOs or MVNO. As a contents provider and platform provider other messaging platform providers such as WhatsApp or Kakao shall be joining the similar game.
