Apple and FBI are recently arguing regarding the Need of Encryption, and who is right for this? By the customer letter of Apple, Apple claimed as below.
Specifically, the FBI wants us to make a new version of the iPhone operating system, circumventing several important security features, and install it on an iPhone recovered during the investigation. In the wrong hands, this software — which does not exist today — would have the potential to unlock any iPhone in someone’s physical possession.
Even this issue has been raised regarding the National security, the conservative press seems to be showing its opinion on Apple. Prior to this dispute, these press have been on the hand of the investigation institution such as FBI and/or CIA.
1. Why Apple Is Right to Challenge an Order to Help the F.B.I. (NYT)
2. Why Apple is tussling with American law enforcement (Economist)
Not only these press, but also the former NSA director is against making backdoors on iOS. Even Mike Rogers of NSA is claiming that “Encryption is the key to the future”. NSA is one of the party that is being interested in the personal privacy information aggregation. Why are they on the stance like this?
An interesting column by H.T. Goranson of USDARPA(US Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency) is giving us the answer. FBI has already gained access to Syed Rizwan Farook’s iPhone. For his iPhone was the older version compared with the new iPhones in the market.
However one thing is clear. A citizen’s privacy must be protected.
